Anthology REVIEW: LITTLE STEVEN AND THE DISCIPLES OF SOUL – Summer OF SORCERY Live! AT THE BEACON THEATRE

Welcome to UK Music Reviews » ALBUM REVIEW: LITTLE STEVEN AND THE DISCIPLES OF SOUL – Summertime OF SORCERY LIVE! AT THE BEACON THEATRE

Summer Of Sorcery Live! At The Beacon Theatre is well-nigh 3 and a half hours of nostalgic and new rock and roll past Stevie Van Zandt (also known as Little Steven) and the Disciples Of Soul, recorded on the terminal night of their Summer Of Sorcery tour on 6th November 2019 at The Buoy Theatre in New York Urban center.

The live album is mixed by Bob Clearmountain, and mastered past Bob Ludwig who are both long time collaborators, and their experience shows. The iii CD'due south and five vinyl albums include thrilling performances of every vocal from Summertime Of Sorcery alongside tracks from Van Zandt's solo career peculiarly 2017's acclaimed solo return, Soulfire, equally well every bit songs he wrote for Southside Johnny and Asbury Jukes together with some previously unreleased songs.

Disc one kicks off with a very special introduction from counter culture icon Wavy Gravy and so information technology is a matter of but sitting back and immersing yourself in the music. Opening track is Communion with its richly flatulent organisation which is followed past Camouflage Of Righteousness from his 1999 solo anthology Born Again Savage.

Songs from the Summer Of Sorcery are not delivered as per the rail list but are transversed across disc one and two, which makes the track listing a smorgasbord of music. Disc one sees the inclusion of Party Mambo! Love Again, I Visit The Blues, Gravity, and final track, A World Of Our Ain. Suddenly You, an outtake from the Lilyhammer score which Van Zandt composed opens disc two, and other Summer Of Sorcery tracks include Vortex, Superfly Terraplaner, the high powered operation of Soul Power Twist and of grade the epic viii minute floor shaking version of the championship track.

There is a reimagining of Pedagogy which was offset recorded for his 1989 solo electronic album Revolution on disc ane, equally is Love On The Wrong Side Of Town from 2017's Soulfire. There is Los Desaparecidos from the bands Voice Of America forth with Trivial Girl So Fine. There is the Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes Trapped Again which serves to give completeness to this disc.

Disc two sees a surprise appearance by Peter Wolf, who lends his inimitable vocals to powerhouse versions of J. Geils Band's Freeze Frame and Artists United Against Apartheid's 1985 landmark protest canticle, Sunday City. Other tracks Include I'one thousand A Patriot, Bitter Fruit, Forever and disc closer, Out Of The Darkness.

Further highlights include spectacular covers of The Youngbloods On Sir Francis Drake, The Dovells' Bristol Of Stomp, The Animals Guild-A-Go-Go and Bruce Springsteen'south Tuscan Railroad train and with disc iii seeing everybody getting into their step, it is an undoubted heady end to the concert.

Electric Flag's Nick Gravenites joins Van Zandt for a spectacular rendition of Groovin' Is Piece of cake, and Peter Wolf is dorsum for an explosive cover of The Showstoppers striking (Ain't Nothin' Only A) Houseparty. Ride The Night Abroad with Jimmy Barnes keeps the party going and Zandt's version of Moon Tears performed with the very talented Nils Lofgren would bring any house downwardly.

The festivities come to a rousing conclusion with a star studded version of Sunday Metropolis which edits together performances with Jimmy Barnes, Sam Fender, Peter Garrett, Clarence Clemons' nephew Jake, Courtney Hadwin, Garland Jeffreys and Bruce Springsteen.

This three disc anthology has expertly captured Picayune Steven bringing the firm downward with his immensely talented Disciples Of Soul and after a mammoth live concert brought to an finish with the oversupply singing along, this is a delightful selection of swell rock music that is worthy of any drove.
